metal fume fever is the most common condition arising from welding galvanised (zinc coated) metal metal fume fever is a kind of metal poisoning, and it's symptoms are like flu but it tends to goes off by the end of the week, and starts again the next week. Unsure if has long term effects. If it's happening treat it as a warning sign that ventilation should be improved, as decent ventilation will reduce exposure to zinc fumes. which should also reduce exposure to any other gases/fumes used/produced in welding. Problems such as arc flash (like bad sunburn- and can damage eyes) can be avoided by ensuring adequate welding mask, and keeping covered up.
