Please know my opinion is biased,....
I took welding as part of my HVAC program. I'll never be able to make a living as a welder but if I ever need to fabricate a structure to place some kind of unit on, I want it to be there 50 years from now....
That being said, I don't have to wear a hot azzz welding cape & helmet all day, but sometimes I'm up in a 160F+ attic. Sometimes I'm on the roof of a commercial building or restaurant with the sun beating down on me... sometimes I'm inside a grocery store and its nice & cool... sometimes I have to adjust some kind of controller in a walk-in that is somewhere between 25F and 45F..... a couple of times -15F....
There are, of course all different kinds of welding whether its production, repair, field service work or custom job shop work....I got alot of respect for welders.
Both fields can be nasty, dirty work sometimes.
I'll stick with HVAC & refrigeration....
