What are you welding? What guage steel?
Remember the three C's.
Clean, clamped, comfortable. This will produce better welds. When welding thinner steel, don't weld a stitch any longer than a half inch. The I-Car recommendations are that the weld should not exceed 10mm for a plug weld with no more than 3mm penetration and no more than 3mm weld height. Same with a stitch, but it is not to exceed 10mm wide with the same 3mm height and penetration. You will learn better welds with more practice and and knowing the proper heat and speed settings.
Good luck.
