Cemented carbide is mainly used to manufacture bimetallic structures such as knives, measuring tools, molds, mining tools and integral knives. The cutting part is hard alloy, and the matrix is carbon steel or low alloy steel, usually medium carbon steel. Such workpieces are subjected to considerable stress during work, especially compression and bending, impact or alternating loads, requiring high joint strength and reliable quality. Cemented carbide has the characteristics of high hardness and good wear resistance, but it also has shortcomings such as high brittleness and poor toughness.

Most cemented carbide tools are inlaid on medium carbon steel or low alloy steel by welding. The welding process is closely related to the performance of the cemented carbide. The quality of the welding performance directly affects the use of the cemented carbide.
