MIG welding aluminum?

1 个回答 悬赏0分 距离有效期还有 0 天

I have a small MIG welder that DOES NOT have a setup for gas...it uses .035" flux core wire.
I have a roll of aluminum .035" wire....can I just put that in the welder and weld thin aluminum plates?
The only tips I find online say you need gas, but my other gas MIG cannot take .035" wire...

You need argon gas to weld aluminum and the power supply has to be pretty beefy. Also, you will have to change out the liner in the hose and possibly change out the gas cup and tip depending on how everything is setup currently. Honestly, I would try to get a MIG that can take solid wire or take the easy route and just use a spool gun. If you are doing a limited number of plates that aren't too big then it might be easier to just invest in a TIG welder and use DC if need be. The AC machines will cost a decent amount more. Aluminum is not an easy metal to weld together unless you have the proper equipment, and it looks like you will have to upgrade something in order to do what you want.
